Day 1

Gradara and Urbino

The castle and walls of Gradara are perfectly kept, to the point that you’ll be able to walk along the ramparts, embracing sea and hill in just one gaze. Some people say the rooms of the fortresses were the scenery of the tragic love story of Paolo and Francesca, sung by Dante in his Inferno: caught by her husband, the two were murdered without mercy. Also the Ducal Palace of Urbino, suspended between classical beauty and extravagant shapes, tells dozens tales.

Day 2

Pesaro

Pesaro is a maritime city rich at elegance and history. Stop at the birth house of composer Gioacchino Rossini, rich at scores, portraits and multimedia tools, to then walk up to the Ducal Palace or Rocca Costanza. The two buildings tell the tales of the Renaissance dynasties, which disputed the rule on the city: Cesare Borgia, illegitimate son to the Pope, had even the seawater conveyed into the castle moat.

Day 3

Sant’Agata Feltria and Pennabilli

Sant’Agata Feltria is an ancient village, rich at art and places worth discovering. You can search for its colorful fountains, or stop for a visit to a castle: it hosts a museum dedicated to fairytales, from Cinderella to the Little Prince. Little far away, Pennabilli offers a delightful views on the Romagna landscape. Across the village streets you will come across different works of art: they belong to the spread museum “I luoghi dell’anima”, ideated by poet Tonino Guerra.

Day 4

Fano and Mondavio

Romagna is a borderland, disputed for long between the most powerful families of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Every ruler had his castles built or fortified, and these are still now the core of the seaside or land villages. In Fano you will be able to visit the Fortress of the Malatestas, while the fortress of Mondavio is a masterpiece of military architecture: the tower were shaped in unusual ways, to get them to escape cannon balls and gun bullets.
